WHO WE ARE
-
EMILY ZAMBER
Owner and Managing Partner of Are You My Human?, Co-Founder of The Millie Project
Emily has had a lifelong love for animals, especially dogs, and has spent years volunteering with dog rescues and animal sanctuaries. Her passion for animal welfare has shaped many of the choices in her life, including becoming vegan more than seven years ago and dedicating her time to helping animals in need. Working in animal rescue has long been a dream of hers.In September of 2025, Emily and John stepped in to take over operations at Are You My Human?, a dog lounge and adoption center dedicated to helping rescue dogs find loving homes. In January of 2026, Emily officially acquired an ownership interest in the business and now manages the day-to-day operations of the lounge, including volunteer coordination, rescue partnerships, and the adoption process.
Through their work with the lounge and The Millie Project, Emily and John hope to expand the impact of rescue in the Pacific Northwest. They plan to take the next step in that journey by starting their own rescue and shelter in late 2026 or early 2027, continuing their commitment to creating safe, compassionate spaces for dogs who need a second chance.

JOHN WINGFIELD
Founder and Executive Director of The Millie Project
John is a photographer, adventure guide, and lifelong dog lover. Over the past decade, his work has taken him all over the world, documenting wild places and the people who love them. But some of the most meaningful moments in his life have happened much closer to home, through rescuing dogs.John began volunteering as a content creator at Are You My Human in summer of 2025. He fell in love with the mission behind AYMH, and eventually dedicated most of his free time to helping manage the business and keep the doors open.
The Millie Project grew out of a deeply personal experience. After losing their beloved golden retriever Millie, John and Emily wanted to create something lasting in her honor; something that could help more dogs find safety, love, and permanent homes. Today, John focuses his efforts on growing The Millie project, through strategic partnerships, fundraising, rescue dog advocacy, and more.
John believes that rescue is about more than saving individual dogs, it’s about building a culture of compassion, education, and responsible pet ownership that helps both people and animals thrive.
WHY WE STARTED THE MILLIE PROJECT
The Millie Project was created to honor the life and legacy of a very special dog.
Millie was more than a companion, she was family, a constant presence on adventures, and a reminder of the joy and loyalty that dogs bring into our lives. After losing her, we knew we wanted to create something meaningful in her name.
The Millie Project exists to help rescue dogs find loving homes, support the organizations doing lifesaving work, and build a community of people who believe every dog deserves a chance.
Every dog we help, every adoption we celebrate, and every life we’re able to improve carries a little piece of Millie’s legacy forward.
